Some Simple Acne Treatment Tips

Most women spend hundreds of dollars on expensive ointments and beauty salon treatments and are still left with unsatisfactory results when there are simple procedures one can do in the comfort of their own home to ensure their skin is healthy and blemish-free. Read on for recommendations on keeping your skin healthy and happy:

1. Exfoliate often

Excess oils produced by the skin clog pores and cause pimples to form; dead skin cells accumulate and need to be regularly removed to give way to the new, healthier skin layer. Make sure you gently exfoliate your face once or twice a week and it will dramatically reduce the appearance of black spots and blemishes.

2. Avoid touching your face

Throughout the day avoid touching your face as hands sweat and this transfers to the face. Most people are compelled to pop a pimple the moment it appears, but this can actually worsen the acne as it spreads bacteria and cause infections.

3. Apply ice and honey

Ice helps tighten the skin and reduce the appearance of pores. Applying ice helps remove oils and dirt and reduces redness and swelling. When your acne gets inflamed – a single ice-cube can do wonders. Honey acts as a natural antiseptic that soothes and heals the skin. Applying honey masks works against the acne problem and is a good preventative measure.

4. Apply toothpaste

Use this as a quick trick to fix an inflamed pimple if you have no time for homemade masks or remedies. A small dab of toothpaste on the affected area and leave for several hours or overnight, then wash away. This will cause the pimple to dry out, but remember to only use white toothpaste and never such with whitening properties.

5. Aloe Vera

When it comes to acne few things are as effective as the aloe vera. This plant has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-septic and astringent properties and can be used as a facial mask, moisturizer, oil or included in your diet. It does wonders in reducing and preventing acne as it regenerates and soothes the skin, stimulating cell growth.

Acne can be unpleasant, but it’s never a stand-alone problem. Many times the cause lies in our lifestyle habits, diet choices or stress levels and we need to examine those to see an unhealthy pattern that requires changing. Remember – healthy and beautiful skin comes from within. Sometimes the problem can require medical attention, in which case skin doctor provides effective treatment to get rid of acne and restore skin to its natural, beautiful state.

A Guide for Micro Needling Treatment Users

Scars from acne or chicken pox are hard to get rid of. Many therapies have been developed to treat such scars; however, none has been as successful as newly developed micro needling. Only in 1995, the idea came into existence; Orentreich et al described subcision or dermal needling for scars. Camirand and Doucet further pushed the treatment in 1997. In their procedure, dermabrasion was done using a tattoo pistol to treat scars. The therapy achieved its full potential in 2006, when Fernandes developed percutaneous collagen induction therapy.

The procedure, being simple, can be done at home. However, dermatologists advice against it, as there is risk of infection and scarring.

Devices used for Micro-needling

In the procedure, the skin is punctured using fine needles; those needles can either be on a roller, which has wheels of needles, or pens, having a cluster of needles at the tip. The models used by doctors may vary; it can be motorized, which allows control of the needle depth. There are other models, which uses micro-needles, as well as radio-frequency energy. The radio- frequency is used to produce heat, which according to some publications helps grow collagen. However, radio-frequency procedure is quite expensive than micro-needle treatment alone.

How treatment works

The injury-very minute-inflicted by needles stimulates the growth of collagen, a protein, which acts as the scaffolding under the skin. The treatment ingeniously uses deliberate injury to collagen to treat scar, which improves its appearance. The technique is more effective for sunken areas caused by acne. However, more deep or narrow scars the procedure does not work. With four to six treatments, you can have 60% to 70% improvement in the broad acne scars. The procedure is also effective in smoothing wrinkles around the eyes and on upper-lip.

Cost and immediate effects of treatment

The costs of treatment vary from $250 to $1,000 based on the dermatologist or a medical-grade device. The procedure may lead to light bleeding. A patient’s face may look pink and puffy after the therapy. It is suggested to patients to put ice on the treatment area after the therapy. The patient recuperates a lot faster than other skin-beautification procedure, such as laser resurfacing, which may take a week or more. It takes only a day or two, if you had a procedure on Friday, you can be presentable, even having makeup, on Sunday.

Precautions to be followed if done at home

Rollers of different models are readily available online, which cost from $20 to $125. It is recommended by dermatologists to consult physicians before doing procedure at home. Also, use needles shorter than a quarter-to-a-half millimeter, since longer needles increase the risk of infection or scarring and hurt more.

Do You Know Your Skin Type?

What’s Your Skin Type?

You’ve heard the buzz about normal, oily, dry, combination, or sensitive skin types. But which one do you have?

Your skin performs important functions that allow you to live a normal life, you might not notice it happening but you can be sure your skin is doing its part to keep your body healthy. Read on and enjoy the following interesting facts about skin.

Normal Skin Type

If you have all or most of the above mentioned things then you have a normal skin. You can buy both cream based and gel based products that work for your skin.

Having a sensitive skin type can mean different things to different people. It can be caused by skin conditions such as rosacea, eczema or allergies. Sensitive skin can become inflamed and irritated easily. It is important to choose the right skin care for sensitive skin because many cleansers and moisturisers contain ingredients that can cause an adverse reaction.

Your face feels and looks moist and shiny (especially at midday, when oil is at its peak). You tend to have clogged pores, and your skin is prone to both noninflammatory acne (blackheads and whiteheads) and inflammatory acne (pimples and cystic zits), which pop up all over.

Dry skin is characterized by a lack of moisture in its corneous layer, resulting in tightness and even flaking. The skin appears dull, especially on the cheeks and around the eyes. It may lack elasticity, with accentuated fine lines and wrinkles. In more severe cases, itching and burning may occur. Extremely dry skin shows signs of cracking and fissuring.

Combination skin occurs when two or more different skin types occur on your face at the same time. Typically, combination skin is when some parts of your face are dry or flaky, while the center part of your face, nose, chin, and forehead (called the T-zone) is oily. Combination skin can also describe conditions where wrinkles and breakouts or rosacea and dry skin are present at the same time.

Skin becomes less elastic and less toned. Wrinkles and furrows form, cheeks are less chubby, facial contours lose their clarity, and features are less harmonious.

Use these tips to help your dry skin:

  • Take shorter showers and baths, no more than once daily.
  • Use mild, gentle soaps or cleansers. Avoid deodorant soaps.
  • Don’t scrub while bathing or drying.
  • Smooth on a rich moisturizer right after bathing. Ointments and creams may work better than lotions for dry skin but are often messier. Reapply as needed throughout the day.
  • Use a humidifier, and don’t let indoor temperatures get too hot.
  • Wear gloves when using cleaning agents, solvents, or household detergents.

Obesity and Overweight Health Risks

Obesity involves excessive weight gain and an abnormal fat accumulation, usually 20 percent or more over an individual’s ideal body weight. Humans take in energy from food and drinks, which is used for the body’s natural processes and for physical activity. People gain weight if they take in more energy than they use and lose weight if they take in less energy than they use. Excess energy is stored mostly as body fat, laid down at various sites around the body, regardless of whether the excess energy comes from carbohydrates, fats, or proteins, or from alcoholic drinks.

As obesity has become a major health problem in the United States, bariatrics become a separate medical branch of medicine that deals with the study, treatment of obesity and related disorders.
The prevalence of obesity has increased dramatically in recent decades. Among children, the prevalence of obesity increased too. Obesity and its associated problems, have also a large economic impact on health care system, with the costs.

Overall risk must take into account the potential presence of other risk factors. Risks for certain conditions increase as weight increases. Some diseases or risk factors associated with obesity, place patients at a high absolute risk for subsequent mortality. According to the Centers for Disease Control the following are health consequences of obesity:

  • Coronary heart disease
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Cancers (endometrial, breast, and colon)
  • Hypertension
  • Dyslipidemia
  • Stroke
  • Liver and gallbladder disease
  • Sleep apnea and respiratory problems
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Gynecological problems (abnormal menses, infertility)

Obesity is a chronic disease, that’s why patients must understand that successful treatment requires a lifelong effort. The most effective treatment for obesity is behavior and lifestyle modification under the guidance of a physician or weight management specialist. It is difficult for most patients to continue to lose weight or prevent further weight gain.

The following guidelines can help in the management of obesity:

  • An appropriate goal is the prevention of weight gain.
  • A combination of diet modification, increased physical activity, and behavior therapy can be effective.

Physical activity also reduces the risk of heart disease, at least 30 minutes or more of moderate-intensity physical activity daily.

Most overweight and obese people should adopt long-term nutritional adjustments to reduce caloric intake. Dietary therapy includes moderate caloric reduction for modifying diets to achieve this goal. People must be educated about food composition, labeling, preparation, and portion size.

Most people are lazy and do nothing to lose weight and then suffer health consequences. People buy products, like books that teach them how to lose weight but they do nothing with them.

10 Reasons To Decrease Sugar Intake From Your Diet

It has been several years, since we were told to decrease the salt in our diets.

Then, we were told to cut back on sugar because researchers linked it to obesity, type-2 diabetes and many complications related to these disorders.

In 2016, the general advice is to drop sugar from your diet altogether.

This is, of course, tricky because many of us have a sweet tooth, thanks to diets that are rich in that sugary taste we crave. The more sugar we have eaten over the years, the more our body craves it now. It doesn’t help that pastries, cakes, glazed donuts, ice cream and many others seem to be right in our path as we shop with healthy intention for the foods we have been told make up the optimal diet.

It’s just the way things are.

Reports reveal the average person in the United States consumes more than 126 grams of sugar daily, which is almost twice the average sugar intake of all 54 countries.

Additionally, 126 grams is two times more than the recommended daily intake, which the World Health Organization designates to be 50 grams daily for people of normal weight.

Eliminating sugar from your diet could save you from a multitude of health problems in the future.

But is eliminating sugar from your diet even a practical recommendation?

Perhaps a better strategy would be take smaller steps and focus on decreasing your intake of sugar.

The following are ten reasons why you should consider eliminating or decreasing, significantly, sugar from your diet:

Depression and Sugar Intake

Sugar is on Prevention’s list of 5 foods that cause depression – and for good reason. Multiple studies have suggested that there is a link between a diet rich in sugar and depression.

It’s important to remember that the foods you eat don’t just release their nutrients, sugars, and calories into your belly and thighs; they also send them up to your brain.

Obesity and Sugar Intake

Sugar has been referred to as the new tobacco.

Sugar is loaded with empty calories (energy) that your body stores for later days. Only, the later days never come and eventually all that built-up energy is turned into fat.

Blood Pressure and Sugar Intake

More and more American’s are being diagnosed with high blood pressure, and Mayo Clinic suggest that a poor diet is one of the biggest risk factors.

The more sugar you eat, the more your bad cholesterol levels can increase resulting in hardening of the arteries and increases in blood pressure.

Heart Disease and Sugar Intake

It doesn’t matter how much you weigh, consuming more sugar just improves your chances of developing heart disease and having a heart attack.

Figures in the past have shown that people who consume 25% more sugar than everyone else have a stronger chance of dying of a heart attack.

Addiction and Sugar Intake

While sugar is not classed as a drug, its effects are similar to heroin. For this reason, sugar is just as addictive as illegal drugs. They hijack the same neural pathways as heroin and cocaine and leave people craving more and more.

In addition, just like drugs, sugar can easily be abused.

Fatty Liver Disease and Sugar Intake

Sugar is largely composed of two simple types of sugars:

• Fructose

• Glucose

Fructose is very much the “evil twin” and heads immediately to your liver. Over time, too much sugar can cause a fatty liver, which, if left untreated, can lead to chronic liver disease or cirrhosis.

Diabetes and Sugar Intake

No doubt, the biggest connection researchers have made is the one between sugar and diabetes.

Diabetes happens when your pancreas doesn’t create enough insulin (hormone that helps turn glucose into energy) or the cells of your body are not able to take up glucose to use for energy.

Type 1 Diabetes occurs when you pancreas does not produce enough insulin.

Type 2 Diabetes occurs when the cells do not utilize glucose appropriately, due to the development of obesity.

Cancer and Sugar Intake

Although tests are still at their tentative stage, there is some research that suggests sugar could cause certain cancers.

Dental Problems and Sugar Intake

Although sugar is certainly not the sole reason for oral issues, it can certainly cause some pretty nasty damage to your molars

This is because it leaves behind a trail of debris in your teeth, which, over time, can lead to plaque and ultimately cavity formation.

Appetite and Sugar Intake

Because sugar is so addictive, it just makes you want to eat more and more. Cutting it out from your diet will harmonize your appetite and you’ll no longer feel like a bottomless pit of starvation.

If you want to optimize your health and the health of your children then start eliminating or at least decreasing sugar from your diet and start living a healthier, longer, more optimal life.

10 Tips for Better Health Even When You’re Obese

1. Create a list of your eating habits

What Are The Causes of Leaky Gut Syndrome?

Thousands suffer from leaky gut syndrome, but the underlying cause is still a mystery. The common mechanism underlying the condition has been described. There is a breach in the mucosal barrier of the intestinal lining which leads to gut contents entering the blood stream. This includes partially digested food, bacteria and fungi.

The result of this violation is a series of symptoms that together are called the Leaky Gut Syndrome.

From a biochemical viewpoint, whenever bacteria act on undigested food they release some toxins. These toxins turn the gut lining more permeable and leaky, and the condition worsens with repeated attacks by endotoxins released by gut bacteria.

The final common pathway of a series of these insults is the condition called leaky gut disease. Among the factors responsible for leaky gut syndrome are these:

1. Intestinal parasites, bacteria and viruses that come from food and water sources that may be contaminated.

2. Digestive enzyme lack that acts in a similar fashion to celiac disease and Crohn’s disease.

3. Overeating refined carbohydrates can worsen the leaking of the intestinal lining.

4. Dyes, food preservatives and coloring material contain toxins in the form of certain chemicals which have been implicated in leaking gut disease.

5. Excessive intake of coffee, tea and alcohol may also result in irritation of the gut lining.

6. Plant toxins and fungal toxins that are ingested when eating stale or rancid foods and grain causes injury to the gut.

7. Gut permeability is worsened through free radical damage to the mucous membrane also.

8. Environmental pollutants have also been described as a cause for leaky gut syndrome in a few research publications.

9. Psychological stress and anxiety is hard to quantify but have both been implicated in cases presenting with symptoms suggestive of leaking bowel disease.

Only a few of these factors have been associated firmly with the condition. Most studies only suggest a relationship without being able to connect the causes firmly with the disorder. It is possible that individual variations and unique factors that are currently poorly understood work in concert to precipitate the disease.

Drugs like non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines are linked to gut permeability disorders as a consequence of their irritation of the gut lining and the propensity to breach the intestinal mucous membrane. There is little environmental or population data available to identify many other suggested causes for the disease.

Leaky intestine syndrome can affect people of all ages and there are many who haven’t been diagnosed but display features suggestive of the condition. It is clear that much more research into the disorder and its causes is necessary.

The Invasion of the Zika Virus!

The Zika virus.

And yet another “plague” hits us again. As far as I can remember in my entire life, first it was the SARS virus, followed by the Bird Flu, H1N1, H5N1 viruses. It’s like mirroring the volatility of the stock markets the behaviors of these viruses!

Introducing our next big hit. The Zeeek Mosquito. That’s what I’m gonna call it and it’s kinda closely related to the Chikungunya (another species of naughty mosquitos). These Zeeks were first discovered in 1947 in the forests of Zika (hence the name), Uganda, now, don’t go asking me how it was first discovered because I have no idea how it became existent in our lives. And in 1952, the first human case of the virus was reported and the last taking place in the year 2007.

The virus re-emerged just last year in 2015 and since then, the Virus has been making quite a tour from Brazil, to the USA and even to as far as Vietnam. And God forbid, we have to be prepared for its landfall here in Singapore.

How is it transmitted?

The Zika Virus was thought to be carried by infected AEDES mosquitoes. And in turn, when they infect humans, the latter gets infected with the virus.

Now at this point, the infected person may or may not know that he or she is infected with the virus, with symptoms only showing in a few days or a week. And when other mosquitoes feed on the infected human individual, the mosquitoes in return gets infected!! It’s a viscous cycle!

Other ways include having unprotected sex; where the risk of sexually transmitted diseases are always greater without the use of a condom; and blood transfusion, although there has been no confirmation of infections via blood transfusion, there has been suspected cases in Brazil that the virus was passed via this mode.

The last mode of transmission which has caught the world by storm is between mother and an unborn child or an infected woman who then conceives a child, and it has raised alarms from within the World Health Organization itself that the unborn child may suffer from birth defects.

Symptoms of it?

When one is infected with the Zika Virus, you should watch out for the following symptoms:

  1. Fever
  2. Rash
  3. Joint Pains
  4. Conjunctivitis( Redness in the eyes)

It may sound mediocre but one should be really concerned of what I’m going to say next.

You won’t know what hit you until after a few days you get bitten.

So you’ll be practically going about your daily routines until reality sets in! People don’t actually get sick enough to get seen by a Doctor.

The light in all these is that death is rare in these instances. And the even greater news is that once you’re infected, and recover from it, you’re immune to it!

How do I prevent it?

It’s quite simple actually.

Refrain traveling to Zika affected areas like Brazil, some countries in South East Asia such as Thailand, South Korea and Vietnam and the United States. But resisting a trip to Phuket, Seoul and parts of the US? Who could?

If a companion, friend or family are suspected to have contracted the virus, educate them to lay low for a week or two. Not to the point of really burying yourself in the room, but just to make sure that the household is free of mosquitoes. You wouldn’t want to be infected them mosquitoes, do you now?

By far, we know that this virus is not readily transmissible via airborne, but it’s always good to take precautions:

  1. Use a mask if you would like to
  2. Wash your hands regularly
  3. Always use protection when having sexual intercourse.
  4. If you are infected, DO NOT get bitten by another mosquito, as that will cause the infections to spread via that little bugger, who goes on biting other victims.

Treatment for it?

There is no treatment ready till today.

The only medications that the WHO propose to alleviate the symptoms are taking Acetaminophen or Paracetamol.

Fortunately there has been no reports of deaths attributed by the virus.

There has been however, anomalies in newborns, where Mircocephaly (defects of the brain) took place. Other anomalies include eye, hearing and growth impairments.

Drugs, Surgery, and Diet: Considering Chrohn’s Disease Treatments

There are several methods of Crohn’s disease treatment available for patients who suffer from this digestive disorder. This disease can affect any part of the digestive tract, so its treatment options often include things that help aid digestive functions.

Crohn’s is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that can cause inflammation in internal areas, such as the intestines. Oral 5-aminosalicylates can be taken by mouth in order to reduce internal swelling and inflammation, but this drug only helps when the colon is affected. Prednisone can be used to treat inflammation anywhere in the body, but it contains numerous side effects and is only recommended for short-term use, such as three to four months.

Immune System Suppressants

Immune system suppressants can be used as Crohn’s disease treatment, and they are sometimes used coupled with steroid treatment. Since the immune system is the part of the body that produces inflammation, these drugs help suppress the immune system and also the inflammation. Azathioprine (Imuran) and mercaptopurine (Purinethol) are the most common immune-suppressants used to treat inflammatory bowel disease. Patients who take these drugs must have regular doctoral visits to make sure that the body is still resistant to infection.

Other Methods

Methods that allow the intestines to rest are also recommended for. Some patients are given food via a feeding tube or nutrients through injection to allow the digestive system time to rest. This can have a significant impact on the reduced swelling, and this may help to prevent the long-term use of drug treatment. Resting the digestive system may also help expedite the success rate of the drugs.

If nothing else works then some doctors may recommend surgery. The surgery can be to remove the affected tissue. Some surgeries might include draining abscesses. One surgery, in particular, involves widening a blocked area of the intestines that have become too narrow. Surgery is often the next step when drug treatment is not working for patients.

Lifestyle Changes and Alternative Medicine

Many people with this disease find that dairy products and high-fat foods make their symptoms worse. These foods are difficult to digest. Fatty foods may increase diarrhea, which might further aggravate the affected areas.

People should drink plenty of water when attempting to change their diet and eating habits. Fluids will help the body properly digest all food. Also, high fiber foods can sometimes be a problem for people with Crohn’s disease as the fiber can cause intestinal blockage. It is recommended that people who suffer from Crohn’s eat steamed and fully cooked vegetables only, and try to avoid vegetables that are highest in fiber, such as broccoli.

There are alternative medicines on the market that help aid digestive functions and might serve as Crohn’s disease treatment. Some essential oils are known to calm the bowels and help aid in digestive functions. Probiotic foods are also often helpful for a healthy gut, and there are plenty of non-dairy probiotics, including some that are made from coconut oil, which would be ideal for someone trying to avoid dairy.

Where Do Diseases Come From?

Diseases occur when a man fails to come to terms with his conscience or his environment. This is apart from accidents, which could have multifaceted origin. Part of the origin of accidents may stem from personal carelessness, echoes from past lives, malicious attacks or being at the wrong place at the wrong time. In other words, it may simply be reaping what has been sown or in some cases sowing new seeds. In all these cases, one thing is definitely involved: personal decision.

Diseases, on the other hand, are caused when there is a conflict between the intellect and the intuition-another way of saying that constant ignoring the dictates of the conscience may result in serious conflict between the two, resulting in what some describe as psychosomatic diseases. The nature of the conflict defines the disease. The results of the conflicts go beyond psychosomatic diseases, even when germs are involved. For the ethereal environment breeds germs from our thought forms, forcing the materialization of these thoughts in the physical. That is why, for example, there are mosquitoes in Netherlands but they do not carry malaria parasites like the ones found in Africa. There, the ethereal environment is of a different constituency from the African environment. And that is the product of the average thought forms. It is also noteworthy that the thoughts’ conflict with the intuition produces its own forms that stain the soul, which stain manifests and percolates gradually as diseases affecting the physical. In the olden days, clairvoyants were able to see the stains, and they were the healers of old, who were spiritual doctors. Such were able to counter the radiation of the “sin” with the appropriate radiation of matching herbs. There are those who mediate higher radiations that correct the imbalance of the aura. These are the magnetic healers, those that modern intellectual man calls Miracle workers, or, “powerful Men Of God”. Such imbalances, using herbs, may last months before the stain is removed, but a magnetic healer might do just that in minutes.

In some cases it may be more preferable to use herbs and long-term healing, because in many cases it goes hand in hand with counseling that could change the orientation of the person and prevent the trend of thoughts that brought the disease in the first place. Magnet healing does not give space for this, and therefore has the tendency of the disease returning due to non change of thoughts and attitudes. Sometimes the change of thought might be enough to effect a healing even without herbal medication.

Nature also plays a role in the healing of diseases. The herbs were products of the activities of the nature beings, who usually provide the right herb or shrub close to the sick. It is only for the seeing one to harness it.

There was a true life story of one who heals with herbs who was called to a patient’s house. After diagnosing the disease (she listens to her spirit helper for such) she turned and saw a plant that was growing near the window, with branches almost encroaching into the window. It was just the major herb she needed to heal. Sometimes our saving herbs are right in our presence but we are two blind and deaf to notice. Another illustration was what happened during the Nigerian Civil war. Because of the war, planting was not possible, and hunger was everywhere. Suddenly, mushrooms of different types started growing with reckless abandon. This became the stable food for the starved. But when the war ended, within six months of the end of the war, the mushrooms gradually disappeared. The elements don’t want their gifts to be taken for granted.

The tendency of man to manipulate his environment has been the major cause of modern diseases. Genetic engineering has done so much havoc, both intentionally and unintentionally. Genetic engineering is doing physically what witchcraft does in the astral. Genetic engineers try to manipulate genes, which they wrongly call the building blocks of life, but which is actually what gives the signal to the little elemental beings that build the body, forces these beings to build alien things and unnatural things by manipulating the radiations and therefore the signals from the genes. Drugs are being manufactured which bring conflicting radiations in the body. Sometimes it suppresses an illness and creates worse ones. Conflicts arise when nature wants to correct the imbalance, and the soul may disengage from the body if it becomes too much for it to bear. The person dies.

This has a relation with the issue of prevalence of Cancer. Modern orthodox efforts are geared towards radiation manipulation of the end products, which is the appearance the tumors. But a holistic manner is treating the over stretched organ, the liver, whose hidden malady produces cancer. Apart from that, the radiation from a coming star of Bethlehem that is unleashing the purification increases the reciprocal action ratio and part of the major focus of its radiations is the brain cells and the liver.
